About the Downloads

Note: Download the DPMS version only if you need to install 32-bit XP to a SATA\RAID\SCSI system.

PLEASE NOTE: E2B v1.B2 had an XP Install from ISO bug - when installing XP Step 1 - you get a
'File ntkrnlmp.exe could not be loaded' error! Please update to v1.B3 or later.

Download from FossHub: Easy2Boot+MPI Tool Pack (for superfast downloads). Ignore the Windows Defender SmartScreen warning and choose 'Run anyway'.

If you need to install XP to a SCSI, SATA or RAID system, then you will need the larger DPMS version of E2B which includes XP 32-bit Driver Pack Mass Storage drivers. Note that hard disk drivers for some very new computers/chipsets are not available for XP!

E2B is virus-free, malware-free and PUP/PUA-free. The E2B download is a self-extracting .exe and it is not installed onto Windows but it does extract a folder onto your Windows drive which you can remove after making your E2B drive if you wish.

INSTRUCTIONS:

  • Windows users - to make a new E2B USB drive (or update a drive),  download and run the Self-Extracting .exe file (see below).
  • Linux users - read this page.

  • To Update your E2B drive - run the download under Windows and click on the Update E2B Drive button.
  • UEFI Booting - you will also need to download and install the MPI Tool Pack and use it to convert your ISO files to .imgPTN files.
    You cannot UEFI-boot to the E2B menu - you must first select and 'switch-in' a .imgPTN file BEFORE you can UEFI-boot. The Utilities - Memory Test menu contains a MemTest86 MBR+UEFI .imgPTN file for you to try out and see how UEFI-booting works (E2B v1.A8+).

  • You can add a second FAT32 partition to the E2B USB drive to multiboot from UEFI-only systems.

The instructions and documentation on this site will always relate to the latest (sometimes Beta) version.
If you use any of the 'special' features of E2B or have a problem, please update your E2B USB drive with the very latest version from the Alternate Download sites. The latest Beta version will often contain small bug-fixes too!

I highly recommend the SanDisk Extreme USB 3.0 - 128GB or 64GB or super-fast Extreme Pro USB 3.1 - 128GB or 256GB for E2B. The SanDisk Extreme drives are the best 'Removable' USB Flash drives for E2B (and most other things)! 
For an even faster Fixed-disk type of Flash drive I recommend the Corsair GTX USB 3.1. It is however wider than most other flash drives and can block adjacent USB ports unless a USB 3 extension cable is used.

Beware! Some 'super-fast' USB 3.0 drives can actually be very, very slow for small file transfer (e.g. Lexar P20).

1. The E2B download is now a Windows self-extracting .exe file. It automatically extracts the files to a new folder on your Windows drive before running Make_E2B.exe. See here for more details.


  Click on the Red Button to format and make an E2B USB drive for MBR and UEFI booting.
  Then copy your ISO files, etc. to the USB drive and MBR\Legacy boot!

Windows Users - Download only one of these two self-extracting executables to make a bootable E2B USB drive...

Easy2Boot_v1.B 5. exe  (24MB) - Recommended for most users. This version can also be used to update any older E2B drive.

   - OR -

Easy2Boot_v1.B5_DPM S.exe (35MB) - Includes 32-bit Windows XP drivers. This version just includes the Driver Pack Mass Storage (DPMS) drivers needed for installing 32-bit Windows XP onto SATA\RAID\SCSI systems. The 'Update E2B drive' button will update any E2B drive. Use this version only if you need to install Windows XP onto SATA\RAID\SCSI systems (Note: due to the lack of new XP drivers, the very latest mainboards may not be supported).

These .exe files will extract the download to a new Easy2Boot folder on your Desktop. You can use this folder to create another E2B drive. You can also use it as a 'Master' folder and add payload files, etc. into it, so that you can run .\Make_E2B.exe to make another E2B drive later with all payloads. You can delete the folder after making uour E2B drive if you wish.

Linux Users - Download Easy2B oot_v1.B5.zip  or Easy2Boot_DP MS_v1.B5.zip and then go to this page for instructions.

If you see an error when making the E2B drive, it may be caused by Windows 10 locking the drive (Safely Remove\Eject will not work the first time Windows 10 sees a USB drive!). Unplug the USB drive and re-connect it and then wait a few minutes for Windows scanning to complete (or disable your AntiVirus temporarily) before trying to make an E2B drive again.

'The process was prevented from accessing MBR: .....\RMPARTUSB.exe', Write-error or 'Access denied'? Check you do not have any Anti-Malware, Anti-Ransomeware or Anti-Rootkit software running such as Acronis Active Protection, etc.!

Note: If your USB drive is not a Removable USB Flash drive (e.g. a hard drive or SSD), see here for additional instructions which may be required when booting from Windows Install ISOs.

For more expert users or if your USB drive is not listed, the Make_E2B_USB_Drive.cmd button allows you more options and choices when you make a USB drive.

You can extract all the E2B files to your Desktop without running Make_E2B.exe by using the 'Extract E2B' button.

2. Download the MPI Tool Pack  (M akePartI mage) [Windows only] For UEFI + MBR booting

This is needed to convert payload files to .imgPTN files from which you can UEFI-boot as well as MBR-boot.

Before you can UEFI-boot from the E2B USB drive, you first need to use \_ISO\SWITCH_E2B.exe (or MBR boot to the E2B menu) and select the .imgPTN file.

.imgPTN partition images can MBR-boot and UEFI-boot to Windows Installer, linux Live OSs, MSDaRT, various WinPE payloads, KonBoot, MemTest86, etc. 

Secure UEFI-booting is possible, if the boot files are correctly signed.

Note: Not all payloads/ISOs contain UEFI boot files. An extra file may be needed for Windows 7 UEFI booting.

 

3. RMPrep USB (.zip file) [Optional - not required]  A useful tool to create/repair/diagnose/read/write/test bootable USB drives [Windows only]  

Unpack zip file to run the .exe installer and use 'More Info' - 'Run anyway' if you get a Windows Defender warning.

RMPrepUSB can also create ext2, ext3 and ext4 persistence files for linux LiveCD ISOs with persistence.

Note: RMPrepUSB 2.1.741 or later should be used with the MPI Tool Pack v0.081 or later. A portable version is also available.

False-Positive Virus/PUP/PUA Detection

 

E2B is downloaded approx. 3000-5000 times a day. Over 1000 new E2B drives are made every day (and many more are updated every day).

If E2B had a virus, both you and I would have heard about it!

Windows Defender may detect and remove some files that it does not like (depending on how it feels today!). Please Update Windows Defender to the latest version if it does not let you run Switch_E2B.exe or some other program. Certain Defender updates seem to suddenly detect some programs as viruses but after an update a few hours later it often fixes the problem!

Try downloading the .zip file version of E2B instead (from Alternate Downloads Area) - extract the contents and run .\Make_E2B.exe to create your E2B USB drive.

Norton AV false positive? - use this link to report a false positive.

Start your Norton product.Click Settings.Under Detailed Settings, click Antivirus.On the Scans and Risks tab, scroll down to Exclusions / Low Risks.Next to Items to Exclude from Auto-Protect, SONAR and Download Intelligence Detection row, click Configure.In the Real Time Exclusions window, click Add Folders or Add Files. Browse for and select the folders or files that you want to exclude from the scan, and then click OK.Click Apply, and then click OK.
To exclude the E2B file(s) - Start your Norton product. Click Settings. Under Detailed Settings, click Antivirus. On the Scans and Risks tab, scroll down to Exclusions / Low Risks. Next to Items to Exclude from Auto-Protect, SONAR and Download Intelligence Detection row, click Configure. In the Real Time Exclusions window, click Add Folders or Add Files. Browse for and select the folders or files that you want to exclude from the scan, and then click OK.Click Apply, and then click OK.
 
Comodo may prevent .exe and .cmd scripts from running correctly (write errors, etc.) - please disable Comodo  'Containment' option before running any E2B utilities.
 

Trend Micro AV, Dr. Web, etc.

Easy2Boot does not contain any viruses, adware, malware or 'puas/pups' (see or check here) - you may get a false virus warning caused by the autorun.inf file in E2B, but this file does not run any programs and is only used to show an E2B icon for the USB drive in Windows Explorer. Good AV programs should not give false positives.

If the Chrome Browser says the download may be 'dangerous', go to the Chrome Downloads page at  chrome://downloads/#  and click on 'Keep dangerous file' or type Ctrl+J.

The Google Chrome browser may report that a file is infected or malicious when you try to download it - this is a false report. The same files, if compressed in a different way using zip or rar format, or if downloaded from Google Drive instead of One Drive, will download without problems! Chrome and Google Drive seem to falsely detect some files as malicious.

Note: Try downloading the same file from Google Drive or MS OneDrive (Alternate Download Areas).

Virus Total

You can submit the download to www.virustotal. com and check it using a wide range of AV scanners - good AV scanners such as Avira, Avast, AVG, Kaspersky, McAfee, Symantec, Sophos, etc. should not report a problem with the download (Sophos may report a PUA = Potentially Unwanted Application - this is NOT a virus). Due to the nature of SWITCH_E2B.exe which requires Administrator priveleges and writes directly to the MBR of USB disks, this program does trigger several AV false positives however. Most of the executables pass VirusTotal with 100% clean rating, except for SWITCH_E2B.exe (my own self-extracting WinRar utility which runs as Admin) and nircmd.exe (Nir Sofer free utility).
